Traditional crowns have long required two visits — one to prepare the tooth and take an impression, and a second weeks later once a lab fabricates the crown. Same-day crown technology compresses that entire process into a single appointment.
The three steps that used to take weeks
After numbing the area and shaping the tooth to receive the crown, we capture a digital 3D scan instead of a traditional putty impression — faster, more comfortable, and more precise. Design software then builds a digital model of the crown, custom-fit to your bite and the surrounding teeth, which a small in-office milling machine carves from a solid ceramic block in about 15 to 20 minutes.
Why skipping the lab matters

Is the quality the same as a lab-made crown?
Modern milling ceramics are strong and long-lasting, comparable to traditional lab-fabricated crowns for most back-tooth applications. For certain highly cosmetic front-tooth cases requiring intricate hand-layered shading, a lab-crafted crown may still be preferred — we'll tell you upfront if your specific case is a better fit for one approach over the other.
What to expect during the visit
The full appointment typically runs one and a half to two hours, most of which is the milling and finishing process happening while you wait comfortably. You leave the same day with a fully bonded, permanent crown — no follow-up visit required unless something needs a minor bite adjustment.
